PRODUCTS FOR MEN
Much attention is given by companies to products aimed at women. Men are certainly not immune to similar attentions. One time-honoured niche is occupied by those products designed to “help” men who are bald or balding. Another is male fragrances. But as one observer notes, 'if men are willing to spend money on cologne that makes them smell good, why wouldn't they spend money on something that makes them look good as well?' Which points to the brand-new niche in the beauty and fashion industry aimed squarely at the modern man: facial and skin-care products.
Today's man is reminded that he, like his female counterpart, is susceptible to the ravages of time. Naturally competitive, men are told that, if they want to compete successfully for attention from those they seek to impress, they must do their best to look beautiful. To do so, the marketers insist, they must buy the products held forth as the secret weapons in such pursuits.
The fashion industry is another stalwart of the male beauty industry. Many men desire to keep up with current fashion trends and will spend a lot of money to do so. Brad Pitt got his start in the industry by being a model for a jeans company. And who amongst men would not like to appropriate a bit of Brad by buying something he put his name to? Brands like Calvin Klein and FCUK deploy vigorous advertising campaigns to market their male-oriented wares.
